Transition to a VPS
After timeless nuisances from the current shared hosting provider, I have decided to move the site over to a VPS managed by me, so the only complaint regarding ssh access or too many concurrent ftp connections or /tmp being full or any problem (minus downtime) will be my own fault.
I have had the vps for the last month to make sure that it is stable, and will not move the site over for another month yet to further ensure that stability is present. The VPS is set up and ready to go, all the files are there, just a matter of moving the databases from my current host over, which will happen closer to the move so as to preserve any posts made from now till the move.
The OS I've decided to use is CentOS, after having a debate with myself between CentOS and debian, I chose the latter. I have enough experience in both. yum vs. apt, apt wins, however, both have proven to be equally stable, with my current CentOS IRC VPS's uptime standing at 339 days (Of course the host has a huge part to play in the uptime) and the debian standing at 53 days (Again host).
At the end of the day, I wont be using apt that much, all I had to do is set up a httpd, DNS, mail, php, mysql, spamassasin, phpmyadmin, awstats, ftpd and firewall. After these are set up, there is not much else to be done other than the occasional update to services when new releases are made due to vulnerabilities or new features.
Hopefully a seamless move will follow soon, and my headaches with the hosting company will be over.

The transition is now complete! Work is under way to rebuild the site as it was prior to this move.
The main change is the move to a CMS. The forum has been switched to the native drupal forum for ease of administration.
